These donuts couldn’t be easier, and will send you into nirvana! My mother used to make them for me as a kid a LONG time ago.
1 can Pillsbury buttermilk biscuits (5 or 10 count size) (do not use Grands size)
peanut oil for deep frying
confectioners sugar, 1-2 cups depending on number of donuts
Place confectioners sugar in a paper lunch bag or a gallon size Ziploc bag
Unroll biscuit dough and separate.
Use the cap from your vanilla bottle to cut holes in the biscuits.
Place 3 inches of oil in a pot or deep fryer.
Bring temperature to 350 degrees.
Place donuts in the hot oil, 3 at a time with the holes.
Fry until bottoms are golden brown, about 45-60 seconds.
Flip donuts and repeat.
Remove donuts from oil to paper towel lined plate.
Let donuts sit for 1 minute, then place 3 donuts in the bag with confectioners sugar.
Seal bag and shake around until donuts are really well coated.
Repeat with remaining 2 donuts and donut holes.
Serve warm.
Yep, l can vouch for these. Same recipe we used for over 40 years, except we have always used Crisco. l always ended up making a big mess because the paper bags can leak; try double-bagging. But the kids loved seeing the sugar all over my blue bathrobe (while my wife just rolled her eyes). Great Saturday morning family memory.
My mother used to make me the same donuts. I’ve continued with my own family and I just made Great grand mother status!
